Rockingham

Rockingham is a holiday city, located about 50km south of Perth. It forms the southernmost border of the Perth metropolitan area.

Rockingham was one of the earliest settlements in W.A, and is closely associated with Captain Stirling's first landing on Garden Island in 1827 and the early years of the Swan River Settlement.

In its early days, Rockingham was a busy port for the timber industry, shipping Jarrah and Sandalwood overseas.

During World War II, troops were stationed along our coast, and Garden Island was used by the army, navy and "Z" force. Garden Island has now become the HMAS Stirling, Australia's largest Fleet Base, capable of supporting half the fleet.

Rockingham is a popular tourist destination with beautiful expanses of safe beaches, water sports, and environmental parks. The city fronts onto the sheltered waters of Cockburn Sound - Garden Island, Penguin Island and Seal Island are very close by. Rockingham is known as "Your Aquatic Playground", and a whole host of water related activities are available in a relaxed holiday atmosphere.
